Make Me Seth Godin's Intern

Thanks for stopping by Seth's Favorite Intern. My name is Brandon Laughridge and I'm a student at the University of Missouri studying Finance (but I've grown to love online marketing). Seth recently wrote about his internship program on his blog and from the moment it popped up in my RSS reader I knew it was the opportunity of a LIFETIME. So, naturally I've created this site to show Seth why I WILL be his favorite intern.

According to Seth, marketing is all about spreading ideas. This is my attempt at spreading the idea that I will be his favorite intern! I'm going to do a contest giving away oodles of online marketing tools and goodies (if you're a vendor contact me about participating) to get some buzz from the blogosphere. All you have to do is mention my site and my quest to be Seth Godin's intern, throw me a link if possible, and your name is in the hat. So far here's what's on the block:

I'll be chronicling my journey below. If you have any ideas to help me generate buzz or any other input contact me at sethsfavoriteintern at gmail.com. Time to prove to Mr. Godin that I have the marketing chops to be his intern. Thanks for your help!

-Brandon

The Application

I put the final touches on the application and sent it in to Seth. I’m excited about my chances but of course I’m being realistic and it’s still a long shot. Thanks to everyone that helped! I’ll keep you updated on what I hear.

Updates

Seth commented on the blog today!  Yay!  I verified that it was actually him, so no worries.  It’s the post before this if you want to check it out.  Have a look at the why me?  page because I’ve edited the references so that you know who they are now.

Michael Jensen of SoloSEO was kind enough to donate 6 months of their service to add to the prize pool.  Thanks Michael!

My idea is spreading

Apparently I’m not the only person trying to use social media to highlight why he or she would make a great intern for Seth Godin.  I saw someone else on Facebook trying to do something similar but it looked a little less planned out.  Good luck and may the best candidate win (or both of us for that matter)!

Why me?

As per Andy Beal’s request, I added a why me? page to the site. I think it’s clear, concise, and convincing about why I would make a great intern for Seth Godin. With that addition I can add a prize to the list! Andy was kind enough to pony up a free 6 month trial of Trackur! Yay! It’s a really cool online reputation monitoring tool and I’d recommend checking it out.

Update

Wow! I got really busy last week with school and a visit to Omaha to meet Warren Buffet (amazing by the way) that I haven’t had time to update this site.  I’m going to get it finished in the next day or two.  I’m making a page on *why* Mr. Godin should choose me as his intern and I have a couple really cool prizes to add to the linking contest (yay!).

Day 2

Wow, the site is finally back up. It was running really slow so I moved it to a new host and installed a sleeker wordpress theme. I hope the site is flying for you now! SEOmoz has joined the efforts and is being kind enough to donate 3 months of PRO membership for me to give away. I should be getting some more sponsors in the next few days and then I can really launch this site.

Day 1

Today is Day 1 of my quest to be Seth Godin’s intern this summer. If you haven’t heard about it, you can read the details on squidoo or on Seth’s blog. My goal is to prove to Seth that I can be the “brilliant/charismatic/motivated/charming and curious” intern he is seeking. Please keep coming back hear and let your friends know about it as well. Thanks!
